JKG Will Open at Congregation Or VeShalom, Fall 2014

ATLANTA, February 19, 2014 — Jewish Kids Groups (JKG), Intown Atlanta’s new independent and experiential Hebrew School, is opening a second location in Brookhaven — at Congregation Or VeShalom on North Druid Hills Road — in August 2014.

This move will bring JKG’s “ridiculously cool” Hebrew Wizards program, already wildly popular at its flagship site in Morningside, to a whole new group of affiliated and unaffiliated families. “Our goal is to meet people where they are Jewishly, and to give their children a top-notch and fun Jewish education and a meaningful social network,” says JKG President, Susan Levitas. Congregation Or VeShalom leadership is equally excited, as Rabbi Kassorla says, "We are thrilled about this new partnership and hope to welcome many Brookhaven families on this journey of growth of soul and spirit."

Initially, JKG in Brookhaven will serve students from pre-school through 6th grade on Sunday mornings. “In year two,” says Executive Director Ana Fuchs, “we will look at whether a full-time Jewish after-school, like the one at our Morningside site, is viable in Brookhaven.”  Registration opens for new families on April 1 for the 2014-15 school year online at www.JewishKidsGroups.com.

Since 2008, Jewish Kids Groups has grown from six kids meeting in a garage to serving more than 130 students. Our curriculum and approach build Hebrew language acquisition, familiarity with Holidays, Torah stories, and prayer using mnemonics, graphics, games and song.

“JKG injects the love and enthusiasm kids feel at Jewish summer camp into Hebrew school. It’s bright, fun and energetic. Equally important, JKG is building Jewish friendships for our kids,” says Rachel Silverman, whose children both attend JKG.

Demand for JKG’s content-rich and camp-like approach to Jewish learning is high, resulting in a wait-list before the Fall 2013 program even began last August.  “By opening JKG at Or VeShalom, JKG not only gains a wonderful new partner and much needed classroom space, we now become a viable option to families living in the Brookhaven area and beyond,” says Fuchs.

JKG is Unique Because We:
  • Employ a cutting-edge curriculum called Hebrew Wizards, bolstered by Jewish enrichment programming like arts and crafts, drama, cooking, games and sports.
  • Focus on building meaningful Jewish friendships and community. It is these close relationships, often forged at Jewish summer camps, that impact our adult Jewish identities and are our best tool for impacting the future of the Jewish people.
  • Offer creative, fun programming, led by enthusiastic, engaged and well-trained counselor/teachers.
  • Meet in Morningside, and now Brookhaven(!), where we serve all Jewish families, regardless of affiliation, in a way that meets them where they are Jewishly and works for their busy lives.

What Parents Are Saying
“When we moved here, JKG was the only place my kids were excited about going in all of Atlanta. They love the warm, welcoming spirit of JKG. They love the thoughtful and engaging discussions, learning about Judaism, the prayers, holidays and Hebrew language in an interactive and super creative style. And they adore the teachers who make them feel like every thought they have is worth listening to. We are grateful for JKG!” said a Candler Park mom.

“My three-year-old comes home from JKG singing in Hebrew, talking about mud from Israel, and using sign language to say the Shema,” said a Virginia Highlands parent.

“It truly does take a village, and Jewish Kids Groups has been our family’s village in so many respects.  JKG immerses our kids with much-needed high quality, innovative and fun Jewish learning, and an exciting avenue to new Jewish friends for both our boys.  In addition, they are exposed to strong, cool and hip young Jewish role models (of both genders) while building a strong foundation for their Jewish futures," says a Morningside mom of two.
